I had it when I was born and ever since that moment; the world has been slowly taking it away from me.
In any given interaction, a number of sophisticated interpersonal mechanisms surface and meet in the space between the two people. These mechanisms aren’t necessarily malicious. We all have them, and we all use them on conscious and subconscious levels. Often in these moments people engage in ways actually harmful to them -- ways loaded with cultural and societal commentary that defines and limits their abilities to relate to themselves and to each other. In this body of work I have explored the space of those who daily face a very specific set of projections: those fighting to affirm their own worth in the midst of a culture whose standards of perfection have become warped and rigid. In doing so I have discovered a point of common accord.
Simply said, we all want to be engaged in meaningful ways.Photography, Fine Arts2011 -

In this portraiture series, I initially set out to capture a completely honest and unhindered expression of the self. In seeking the ever-elusive ego, however, I stumbled upon something profoundly more breathtaking: the dignity and innate liberation afforded by the process of image-making. That is to say: to receive an image offered by another and to return it as it was given is equivalent to sharing one’s vulnerabilities and saying, “Yes, you are worthy!”
Where I first sought to create a thought-provoking product by means of whittling the traditional constructs of portraiture all the way down to their most basic form -- the face -- I soon realized that the real charge in this body of work did not lie in the end result, but rather in the tensions of engaging both process-oriented film photography and the perplexing mechanisms surrounding the human condition.Photography, Art Direction, Narrative Portraiture2011 -
